Eddie and I graduated from High School together and worked at the DQ while going to college. He was always a great friend. There couldn't have been a nicer guy.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of Ed. I worked with Ed for several years at Mayer Electric. People like Ed Cates do not come along very often. There was something special about Ed, always cheerful and full of energy. I am blessed and fortunate to have known him.

Ed and I met because we were both members of the Sons of Jubal. When SOJ made their mission trip to Russia, Ed and I were thrown together and he asked me if I wanted to walk around with him during a free afternoon we had. We walked around for several hours and went in a small restaurant and ate lunch together. We were instant friends. Ever since that trip we would look each other up when we had concerts and retreats and I counted Ed as a dear friend. We have emailed and talked on the phone some over the course of his sickness and I regret now that I did not take the time to make the trip to Auburn to spend more time with him. I will miss him greatly. He was a very dedicated Christian and I count his friendship as a real life-changing experience in my life. My prayers are with the family and friends in this great loss.

Doc and Sara,

Your hearts are heavy now and I am praying for God to give you the added strength you need to make it through. We know He has been with Ed during this whole ordeal called Cancer. We never understand the why and we don't understand the why not either? I am just so happy that Ed loved his Lord like he did. Seeing someone with such faith go HOME is always a joy; the sad part is going on here on earth without him. He did light up your lives! You have such great memories; it was easy to see that from looking into the eyes of either one of you when you talked about him! Those memories belong to you forever. They are YOURS! Enjoy them. I love you. God bless you and keep you.
